Awesome Furniture Inspired by Scrabble
By George on May 31, 2009 in Featured, Furniture, Furniture Cowboy
These pieces of furniture below were inspired by the Scrabble board game. For those of you who are not familiar, Scrabble is a word game in which letters are placed on a board to form words. The longer the word and rarer the letters you use are, the more points you can score.
These pieces of furniture are designed by Stephen Reed. They can be seen here in Bloomberg’s London offices. The intent of the company is to spur creativity and reduce stress. Employees can make words and leave messages with the screen printed letter cushions, a nice form to personalize these pieces of furniture. More and more companies are striving to keep employees stress levels down while not sacrificing productivity. This furniture design could be the start of a new trend in corporate offices and lounges. I can definitely see these couches in ad agencies and other “creative” work environments.
These couches don’t look too comfortable. The only problem aside from the comfort factor is the need for tons of pillows to insure the creation of a variety of words. What do you do with all the extra pillows that aren’t being used? Put them in a closet, perhaps. Another alternative is just ordering the more popular letters. Aside from its few minor issues, this design is the first of its kind and no one can argue its creativity.
This is the first furniture design I’ve come across that features Scrabble or any other board game. If you stumble across any others, please link it in your comment!

Those pillows look, ah, ummm…. can’t think of the word. Comfortable.
